About a week ago I was complaining about my home-based business being slow and my friend Gina suggested reaching out to some of the online newspapers and get back into writing to fill the void in my days and make some extra money.
The first nine months of 2012 were very strong in regard to writing. First I copy edited and wrote the forward to a book by actor and friend Scott Schiaffo (http://www.scottschiaffo.com/) which was published and Scott had many public appearances. Then I did a ton of writing for Paterson Press over the summer and some business writing here and there. And started ghost writing a book that didn’t work out. (And so it goes …)
Then I became so gung ho about marketing and promotions I put my professional writing career on the back burner, unintentionally of course, but sometimes that’s how things happen.
So after a few of my clients that I did marketing and personal assistance for kept canceling out on my services, I sent out a few cover letters and resumes and got some amazing results!
In just two days, I scored gigs writing for the following online publications: Westfield Alternative Press, Millburn Alternative Press, South Orange Alternative Press and Maplewood Alternative Press! And of course I’ll still be writing for Paterson Press.
One very exciting assignment I am looking forward to is interviewing comedian David Brenner who will be performing at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey in March. And I will also be covering town council and zoning board meetings.
I love the excitement of writing for an online daily newspaper! Every day is a rush and you never know what is around the corner.
How could I have stayed away, so long, from something that makes me so happy? Silly me!
