Two days ago I had a blast interviewing Billy Childs for an upcoming Get the Led Out show at SOPAC in South Orange. We talked for 1.5 hours — the longest phone interview I ever did in my career!

Interesting side note, Billy Childs recorded at House of Music in West Orange, New Jersey, with Britny Fox around the same time as my husband’s ’80s hair band Pharoah recorded there.
Their website, which you can find via my article has some cool videos so you can see them performing. They truly are an amazing band. I look forward to the show later this month!
Hey Maryanne! Just read your article and I’m jealous of what a fun job you have. Interviewing musicians and writing about them as well as writing about other stuff and getting paid for it. It sounds like a dream job to me! I do a lot of writing for my blog, but I don’t get paid for it. I guess my payment is the hope that I’m inspiring others to go vegan. I love your writing girlfriend!! Celeste 🙂
Yes, it’s definitely a dream job, especially since I stopped working in-house and started writing from home for various publications. I definitely get a lot of life experiences and every day is different. You can definitely get paid writing about veganism. There are a lot of health magazines all over the country. I used to have my own health column, also was the editor for NJ Health & Fitness. Currently I’m writing for Skinny News (as you know, you inspired me to write about the additives in meat!). Just keep looking because nothing is better than doing what you love. Have you tried writing for Vegetarian Times? Since it’s a magazine you should get paid decent.
I’ve never tried to get paid for my writing. I’m not even sure how to do it. Celeste 🙂
Find a publication you love, send an email to their editor, asking if they are looking for freelancers. If so, you can work out the details with the editor (how much you’ll get paid, what kind of stories you’ll write, how many words, etc.) If you’ve never done it before, I’d suggest writing for some start-ups for free, just to get clips or links to your work.
Thanks so much Maryanne! I just might make an attempt at this. Celeste 🙂
YAY!! If you need any help, email me: maryannechristiano@gmail.com 🙂
I appreciate the support Maryanne!!
P.S. – Here’s my Pinterest page with a compilation of the people I’ve interviewed over the years, very diverse (LOL!): http://pinterest.com/mrsmistretta/people-ive-interviewed-over-the-years/
Just checked it out – wow!! I read that Carol Alt is a raw vegan. It’s certainly keeping her young and vibrant!! Celeste 🙂
She’s raw, but not a vegan. She eats meat tartar and sashimi 🙂
Oh – that’s interesting!
Reblogged this on Maryanne's Jukebox.
Haven’t spoken to Billy in a long time, but he’s always been a cool guy. Spent a lot of time with Britny Fox back in the late 80s. A fantastic band.
Did you interview him too, Dave? He’s a great interview, talks so effortlessly.
Britny Fox were one of the bands I championed the most back in the day. I’ve been fortunate to have shared some great times with those guys (in the US and when they were in London opening up for Alice Cooper), Billy very much included. Good to know that Billy is still enjoying his music.
Ah, Billy spoke of that tour! I didn’t include that in the article because there was so much info to go by, I decided to condense and make it more about Get the Led Out.
It was good to read about Get the Led Out and his take on the Led Zeppelin phenomenon. Pretty sure Billy appreciated the article being about his current project rather than the past.
Good point, Dave, thanks 🙂
It was nice to see your interview with Billy Childs. I had the pleasure of meeting him about 12 years ago. He is a true gentleman in an industry that does not promote such positive behavior. I was glad to see that he was still enjoying and playing music.
Thanks so much, Terri. He definitely was positive, I was just telling my husband last night he was one of my favorite people to interview because from the get go I felt like we knew each other all our lives. He’s so down to earth.
