A Good Old Fashioned Evening

Published July 30, 2013 by Maryanne

We’re having the most gorgeous weather in New Jersey. True summer; warm days, cooler nights, no humidity.

Last night my husband and I took our walk and decided to go through the town rather than to a park or through the woods as we usually do.

We saw the cutest little girl with a lemonade stand, so my husband bought two cups (and drank mine because I avoid sugary/artificial treats).

We always love seeing kids doing old fashioned things and being outside in the fresh air — not inside on their computers or eyeballs glued to the phones, texting.

It truly lifts your spirits and puts you into another realm of time, perhaps when the world was a better place to live; or perhaps just what some want to remember. Regardless, we certainly captured something special in that short time frame.

Life is good.

  • At least she was allowed to have it. I keep hearing about crotchety neighbors who report lemonade/cookie stands to the town, and the kids either have to stop running them…or get a food resale permit!
    People nowadays. :/

You are so right about the weather though. I live in the Tristate area, and it has been spectacular for nighttime walking. Last night a firefly sat on my shoulder for a full circle of my route. It was kinda cute. 🙂

  • We can only dream of gorgeous weather right now. This is the horrible part of our summer–super hot and super humid. It makes for miserable daily walks and we just live for October days when it will finally improve . . . and we pray that we won’t have a hurricane in the months between now and then. Please keep telling us about your beautiful evenings so we can enjoy them vicariously. 🙂

    • Sounds like your weather is similar to ours. We recently got over our hot humid spell and now it’s just so refreshing. And we fear hurricanes too — the last couple years, as it was never like this before!

  • What do you think?
