Sarah Miller Geer grew up in New York City and always had a love for the ocean.
She remembers her parents taking her to Atlantic City when she was a little girl and walking on the boardwalk, with the beach “right there.”
The Jackson, New Jersey, resident started making beach-inspired jewelry about 15 years ago, at first as a hobby for herself. Then when friends asked her to make something for them, she wouldn’t charge. When her friends wore the creations to work, they’d get orders for Sarah, who said, “I didn’t intend for it to be more than a hobby.”
Designs are one-of-kind made from items found right on the Jersey shore beaches, like real starfishes — only the dead ones … Sarah loves animals and throws the real ones back into the ocean! She also uses seashells that aren’t broken, sea glass and “sand from Point Pleasant and Seaside.”
Currently Sarah is learning more advanced techniques for jewelry making, such as wire wrapping. She said, “Wire wrapping allows no room for mistakes.”
When Sarah isn’t making jewelry, she loves photography. And the beach is still her major inspiration. She said, “I love to photograph nature, seagulls, clouds … anything to do with the beach.”
Enjoy shopping for your beach dream designs — but not the one pictured, that’s for me! I’ll be purchasing when I meet Sarah face-to-face later this month! 🙂 ❤
