Me, at Lewis Howes’ Summit of Greatness, 2018
In this day and age, I’m certain most people are familiar with Law of Attraction, a philosophical suggestion that positive thoughts bring positive results; a principal that like attracts like. While most say that there’s no concrete evidence that Law of Attraction exists, Joe Dispenza actually backed the concept with science in his books.
I first became aware of Law of Attraction in the late 1980s when I read a book called “Creative Visualization” by Shakti Gawain. But I did my first actual manifestation about a decade earlier, when I was between the ages of 12 and 15. But that’s another story.
We are all capable of being manifesting machines. But the deal is, you can manifest bigger and better by not settling for less than what you desire. One of my greatest manifestations is my marriage. I was never a “here comes the bride” girl. In fact, at one point I didn’t even think I’d want to get married. But if I did, my guy was going to be someone that I thought was really good looking, that I could talk to/connect with, loved music and animals, and was of the same spiritual mindset. A tall order? Perhaps, but I got it! And 17 years later, I’m still in a very happy marriage. Why? Because I didn’t settle.
When you settle for something something, anything, whether it’s a relationship, a friendship, a job, a career, that is not what you REALLY want, you are telling The Universe, it’s acceptable, that you are not worthy of something bigger and better.
Sometimes waiting for something bigger and better isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s hard as hell. You wait. You wonder. But while you wait, it’s a test of faith. Not faith in a higher power, but faith in YOU. Are YOU worth the wait?
Did you ever want a job so bad you could taste it? Sometimes you get the job. But sometimes you don’t. You can’t imagine why you didn’t get that job. Everything about it was so right. It was in your salary range, close to home, something you’d love to do, you could even say a dream job … but you didn’t get it. Or that guy/girl who was really good looking, friendly, fun, and he/she just liked you as a friend. What the hell is wrong with you? NOTHING!! Nothing is wrong with you! Something even BETTER would be coming. It may be a few weeks. It may be a month. Even years. But, wait it out, and you will see what happens. Then you can look back and say, “Yes, no wonder I didn’t get that job, then I wouldn’t be available for this amazing opportunity that is ten times better!”
Five years ago I attended Lewis Howes Summit of Greatness. I took a 10+ hour road trip (which included stops) out to Columbus, Ohio. It was three full days of motivational speakers, all day long.
Prior to attending, I was helping other people promote their careers. After that I decided to just concentrate on my own career. I was already doing public speaking, but I wanted to elevate to motivational speaking. As Lewis Howes suggested, I joined Toastmasters. Within the first few months I won medals for Best Speaker, Best Evaluator, and Best Table Topics. I’ve done a few motivational gigs and look forward to having more. I’ve written a self-help book.
More recently, I’ve invested in getting a motivational video made professionally and joined a few motivational speaker organizations. While doing all this, I’ve been consistently getting speaking gigs at libraries. Though I feel I’m outgrowing that and finding myself booking the library gigs less and less.
When you think about what you want in life, more isn’t always more. I truly feel that taking on less library speaking gigs, I’ll have more room for motivational gigs. It may take some time to manifest, but if I think about everything else I’ve manifested in life, the law of attraction doesn’t fail. The Universe just needs to know, not only how serious you are, but how much faith you have, and how bad you want something.
Without a college degree, I’ve worked as a professional journalist since 1995.
I became an author at 50.
And I married at the age of 46.
While it’s fantastic to have everything you could ever dream of at a young age, it’s just as fun if you’re a late bloomer. Sometimes you appreciate life even more. We’re all put here to celebrate, to lift each other up, and support each other. Some of us are blessed to live to our 90s. We all have a long road ahead of us, but trust me, it goes fast. From 20 to 30 might seem a lifetime in itself, but from 49 to 59 — whoa, does it zoom by!
Do you want more out of your life? Don’t accept less! (But stay strong during the downtime, the Universe is on your side and making it happen, for YOU)
