Book Signing at Randy Now’s Man Cave

Published December 19, 2016 by Maryanne

SAM_1817With my supportive husband, Dennis Lords

It was my honor to sign copies of my two books, “On the Guest List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” and “Love Cats” at Randy Now’s Man Cave in Bordentown, NJ, yesterday (Sunday, Dec. 19, 2016).

Mary Muehleisen was also there representing her late brother, Maury Muehleisen who played guitar with Jim Croce, and died in a plane crash with Jim at the age of 24. She was selling two of Maury’s solo CDs (which are incredible, by the way! What a gorgeous voice he had, and a beautiful guitarist and songwriter).

Interesting story, a customer came in to buy a Jim Croce record for his girlfriend for Christmas. He did not know that Mary Muehleisen was going to be there. What a beautiful coincidence. The customer brought one of her brother’s CDs.

Dating Authentic

love 1980s

1980s

When I wrote my first fiction book, “Love Cats” I had to channel another lifetime since the book not only takes place in the 1980s, but with young people.

I did plenty of “Googling” and watching old television shows to make sure I had the right looks and the right dialogue. Nothing is worse than reading a fiction book that takes place in another decade and everything is dead wrong.

Though there are some things in life that the more things change, the more they stay the time. Like love gone bad. Even in this day and age my single friends complain to me about guys who don’t love them just as they are.

In “Love Cats” Janey Peyton has this issue when she hooks up with famous rock photographer Adam Durian. His demands on Janey are pretty harsh. From telling her what shoes to wear to insisting she lose weight before he takes her out again, the novelty of dating someone famous gets old pretty fast.

This morning I was watching an episode of “The Facts of Life” (television show 1980s) where Blair is dating someone who makes similar demands on her, like suggesting she cut her long hair.

Dating wrong people isn’t an issue exclusive to the 1980s. Girls still do it and always will, until they learn. Like Janey did.

Does Janey find true love after all? What lessons does she learn along the way. Find out. Get your copy of “Love Cats” today. A book for most generations! (18 and over).

“Love Cats” is available on Amazon.

According to Amazon rankings, as of 8:08 a.m. May 29, 2015, “Love Cats” on Kindle is trumping the paperback. Doesn’t anyone like to hold a book anymore? Ha-ha!

In other writing news:

Book #3 “The Gypsy Smiled” (fiction) is now finished and I’ve been sending out to traditional publishers. (Stay tuned for synopsis).

I’m writing two other books: “Grandpa Guts and the Happy Young Punks” (fiction) and “Ghost Writer in the Sky” (fiction). And a short fiction story: “Backward to the Future.”

And my first book, memoir, “On the Guest List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” is still going strong: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/162903908X

“Love Cats” Coming Soon! (One Step Closer!)

I am ecstatic to say that “Love Cats” is on it’s way.

It’s my second book, but my very first fiction book. Chick Lit, perhaps, but also a deep look into human nature and what it’s like to be 20-something. Dark wave is used as the soundtrack to sexual exploration, mistrust, lies and deception. Cats, as secondary characters, mysteriously move the story along to the next level as main characters grow, live and learn.

Little side note: Oh my God, I’m so loving the spine!

It’s now up on Amazon, but not available for purchase yet, as I still have to “okay” the live copy, which I’ll be getting in snail mail sometime next week, just to make sure the color is right.

Still looks good to have my second book on Amazon, check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Love-Cats-Maryanne-Christiano-Mistretta/dp/1681020513/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1432208047&sr=1-1&keywords=love+cats+by+maryanne+christiano-mistretta

Derick sez, “Put ‘Love Cats’ on your ‘wish list’!”

Read what people are saying about Love Cats!

“Maryanne Christiano Mistretta draws you in from the very first page. This book will make you find yourself yelling at the characters. I laughed out loud, I cried; my emotions were all over the place. With engaging characters and a unique story-line set in 1980s New Jersey, ‘Love Cats’ is a story that will captivate you and stay in your heart long after you read the last line.” – S.C. Miotto, author “Moonstone Dreams” and “Diamond Love.”

“Maryanne’s zeal for life and passion for creativity shines through in all of her work. Here in her first book of fiction she gives us multidimensional characters mitigating love and growing pains as they manicure their pop culture lifestyle at the tail end of the 80s. It’s romance — Gen X style! I could not get enough of Janey and Beck, but don’t take my word for it, stop reading my words and start reading Maryanne’s compelling opus ASAP!” – Scott Schiaffo

In “Love Cats,” Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta really takes you there, to the fun and electricity of running around, being young in the 1980s, in New Jersey, but enough universal magic so we all can relate: the spontaneity, adorable flirting, daring and exploring, making mistakes and finding your way. Maryanne treats tricky, sensitive and intimate topics with the most refreshing honesty. – Zaphyrella, designer.

Enjoy the synopsis and endorsements!

Synopsis

Janey Peyton is filthy rich, but also a down-to-earth goth chick. She lives in suburban New Jersey during the 1980s. Janey has it all, including an Italian live-in housekeeper (who sometimes drives her batty with overbearing dated love advice).

Since Janey’s status symbol-driven parents are absent in her life love-starved Janey desperately seeks a soul mate as she cruises the new wave nightclubs.

Enter Beck Stewart, also a workaholic, but for all the right reasons. The working class hero wants to make a better life for himself. Beck falls hard for Janey and turns a blind eye to the immediate red flags: she’s a snoop and obviously hates his beloved old cat, Morticia.

When Janey discovers Beck can’t resist overtime hours, she mistakes his job loyalty for neglect. For “revenge” she takes on other lovers and is careless when it comes to hiding her conquests. What happens when Beck feels enough is enough and the couple who had their ups and downs finally hit an all time low? And what happens when a stray kitten shows up on cat hater Janey’s doorstep?

If you love the’80s, alternative wave, sexy chick lit, and of course CATS, this book is for you!
