Today was my third book signing at Randy Now’s Man Cave in Bordentown, New Jersey.

It’s always an honor being here. The store is incredible with vinyl and oddities. So many legends have performed here; and signed books here, that I’m humbled, big time, to be among many greats.

I favor doing book signings, but for those who aren’t in my area, the books are available online.

Earlier this year when my first book “Guest List” came out, I did several interviews. This was on of my favorites, on Totally Driven Radio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS-3QdKq6kw&feature=youtu.be

It was so cool, talking about the book and sharing such great stories such as the final days of Max’s Kansas, being friends with Cyrinda Foxe and other cool stuff.

Reading/Book Signing “On the Guest List” Caldwell Library

Had a nice turn out at the Caldwell Library, Caldwell, New Jersey, last night and some lovely comments:

1. That I had a nice reading voice and I should record my book on audio for the blind.

2. That it was refreshing and rare that my book was so positive, that I had no anger or bitterness like many other memoirs.

It was super cool meeting the library director, Fran, who I’ve been talking to on the phone for some time. A kindred spirit who loves music and went to the Mudd Club!

Book Signing, Lincoln Park Public Library

SAM_4315Carolyn and me

I had a great reading/signing at the Lincoln Park Public Library tonight! It was great when friends showed up and super cool when people I didn’t know showed up that were interested in the book! Carolyn pictured above, I just met!

I read for about a half hour and then had a Q&A. Carolyn asked me a great question: “What is your favorite song?”

That was way too hard to answer, but I said my three favorite songs to play over and over again (in no certain order) are:

1. “Plus One” by Coyote Shivers

2. “I’m Gonna Make You Mine” by Lou Christie

3. “Time and Love” by the Fifth Dimension

The Lincoln Park Library also asked me to donate a book for their “Local Author” section! I was so psyched about that.

And the coolest thing, earlier today I received an email from my home room teacher’s daughter, who said I inspired her to become a music journalist! She’s now writing for the Aquarian/Arts Weekly — where I once wrote!

My Radio Podcast: Guest on The Bully Proof Classroom

Published March 11, 2014 by Maryanne

anti-bullying 101

I was very honored to be a guest on “The Bully Proof Classroom” a blog radio program hosted by James “Jim” Burns, author of “Anti-Bulling 101.”

The program is about 50 minutes long and I spoke about 45 minutes sharing my challenges: being bullied in both grammar school and high school, living with dyslexia, becoming an award winning journalist and self-employed home business owner without a college education, how bands like The Plasmatics gave me hope for the outside world when I was just a teenager and so many other cool things, some of which are featured in my book: “On the Guest List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” (available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/162903908X)

The podcast will be saved forever, so please feel free to tune in at your convenience: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bullyproofclassroom/2014/03/11/the-bully-proof-classrooms-speaks-with-maryanne-christiano-mistretta

Jim was a great host and I had such a wonderful time! Definitely a wonderful way to end the day.

AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: If parents want to purchase my book, it IS a rock ‘n’ roll book and there are curse words, so please use discretion as to whether or not your child could read. I would suggest 16 and older.

Endorsements for “On the Guest List”

Published November 3, 2013 by Maryanne

scott-schiaffo2Scott Schiaffo, actor/author/musician endorses my upcoming book!

My upcoming book “On the Guest List” was finished several weeks ago. I just wanted to take a few weeks to let it all sink in — I’ve written a book! I’ve been a professional journalist since 1995, published all over the world, and making a living off my work. I was always so happy doing that, I never thought about taking the next plunge and writing a full book!

Well, I did it! And I plan to self-publish by Spring 2014.

I’m thrilled that I have some pretty cool celebrity author endorsements.

From Scott Schiaffo, “Clerks” actor/author/musician:

“Maryanne’s reflections and musings are informative, insightful and always full of heart, and it is the heart of a tried and true music fan – and a real Rock & Roll trooper. Through personal trials and triumphs a warm-upbeat and timeless soul weaves through the pages. Her passion for all things music, punk, rock, pop culture & beyond is truly infectious and without peer!” — Scott Schiaffo

From Judy McGuire, author/”Date Girl” columnist:

“I hate to sound all get-off-my-lawn, but kids today—you don’t know how good you have it. Back in the oldie, pre-internet days, the only way a suburban kid could find good music was to hang out at the local record store and listen to college radio. Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta paints a vivid picture of the way things were back before Brooklyn Vegan—or even Spin, in its print incarnation—was around to guide us. Fake IDs, rock-star flirtations, and late nights at Max’s Kansas City by night; rocks thrown at her during the day at school. But unlike the majority of rock bios, there’s no descent into drug addiction, misery, or even cattiness—Christiano-Mistretta starts off a fan, and stays a fan, eventually carving out a career for herself covering the music she loves and marrying a man she loves more in the process. And go figure, he’s a musician!” — Judy McGuire

There are more surprises to come — including a Face Book fan page — so stay tuned!
