Hey gang, my third book “The Gypsy Smiled” is ready for publication and if I can get 1000 votes, Something Or Other will give me a publishing contract!

Please vote and share! http://soopllc.com/blog/book-ideas/gypsy-smiled-maryanne-christiano-mistretta/

“The Gypsy Smiled” is the story of Lucretia “Lucy” Christiansen, a singer/guitarist in her mid-20s, trying to make it in the music business in the late 1980s. Because she’s working two jobs to support herself, she can never make it to band practice on time. Therefore, the leader of her all-girl goth outfit, Daughters of Darkness, kicks her out of the band. The creepy thing is — Lucy was warned that this would happen. An eccentric psychic named Gypsy told her so. Lucy is now feeling like a failure and drowning her sorrows by record store hopping. Though she loves gothic music, she’s also a big fan of “oldies” artists like Lou Christie, who she dreams of working with, creatively. During her record shopping trip, a young fellow goth named Dionysus develops a crush on her and starts following her around like a puppy dog. Lucy fails to take him seriously, especially when she finds out he still lives at home. Plus she’s more focused on revving up her musical career than romance. But Dionysus, real name Scott, turns out to be a killer guitarist and wants Lucy to sing in his band. His father is a famous Elvis impersonator, so Scott knows people “in the biz.” Lucy agrees to be in his band, but Scott has more on his mind than being “just friends.” Knowing how career-focused Lucy is, Scott puts his feelings at bay and they work their musical magic together.

Things are going beautifully until Lucy’s former band mates instigate a fight between her and Scott, causing him to wonder if Lucy is just using him as a vehicle to launch her career as a singing sensation.

Lucy desperately seeks help from psychic Gypsy.

Gypsy has the answers but Lucy lacks the trust. Fed up, Gypsy sends Lucy to an all expense paid new age vacation spa in the mountains; where Lucy could find her own answers.

❤ Thanks for your support!

Thoughts and Dreams (An Author’s Pre-Publish Excitement and Jitters)

I’ve always been of the mindset that we all have psychic powers within us and are able to guide ourselves through life by messages from the universe. I use these techniques in various ways. Because when we open our eyes, the signs are always there right in front of us. One time I was very sad about something and on a very windy day, a piece of light cardboard with a photo on it appeared in my backyard. The cardboard looked like a CD cover. I picked it up and it was a perfume called “Angel.” I took it as an omen that an angel was telling me things were going to be alright. And they were.

For the past few months I’ve been trying to self-publish my second book, “Love Cats.” I’m incredibly tense about it because it’s my first work of fiction and has four major sex scenes since it’s about singles in their 20s. As a former writer for “Screw” and “Gasm” I must say these are not your boring cliche simultaneous orgasm modern romance novel sex scenes. These are sex scenes as people really have sex … fumbling for condoms, or the WIO method, nervousness, trying to unhook bras, first time same-sex experiences … you get the picture. Nothing is left to the imagination. So you can see why I’m nervous about getting this stuff published.

“Love Cats” also deals with parental neglect, heartache, friendship break-ups and a main character who is unkind to animals. The more I re-read my book, the more frightened, yet anxious I am about having it published. Frightened because though it has it’s humorous situations, it’s incredibly intense.

The intensity reached my subconscious in sleep last night, when a beautiful brunette woman came to me, smiling, and wanting to be friends. I had no idea who she was. This image continued to haunt me throughout the morning as I tried to figure out who she was. Then when I was looking up famous musicians birthdays for the day, I saw that it was the birthday of Martika. I was unfamiliar with her work, except for the song “Toy Soldiers.” I Googled what she looked like, and that was the girl in my dream! So I searched for the answers in “Toy Soldiers” and immediately after reading the lyrics, I felt the pain of the characters in my fictitious “Love Cats.” Beck and Janey, loved so deeply and were going through a rough time, with much heartache and tears … something I haven’t known in ages since I am so happily ecstatic with my husband and soul mate.

I had to dig to the darkest corners of my soul to come up with these feelings expressed in “Love Cats.” How I felt, hurt in my 20s, and then exaggerated it ten-fold in order to creative good fiction because in my 20s I had such a “devil may care” attitude about everything bad that happened to me. I didn’t know real pain until I reached my 30s. After the death of my grandmother, it was like, so this is what heartache really feels like.

“Toy Soldiers” could have been a perfect accompaniment to my soundtrack for “Love Cats” even though it’s not in the new wave/dark wave genre of other work I’ve included such as Iggy Pop, The Cure, Joy Division, Kate Bush and so on …

As I was making friend with the woman in my dream, I’m making “friends” with what her song represents — that yeah, this book is harsh and I just have to take a deep breath and just put it out there. JUST LET GO!

Oh, and there is part two.

Also in the dream was a friend of a friend I lost touch with. Why was this person in the dream? We barely ever spoke to each other. But the cool thing was, we respected each others work. I always loved the bands this guy played in. And he came to one of my live poetry presentations and said he liked it. When I used to be on Face Book, this same person gave me the “thumbs up” when my first book, “On the Guest List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” was published. So I looked him up. He was easy to find because does a lot. He’s also less than six degrees separated from Iggy Pop … which is another connection to “Love Cats” because as I noted before, I wrote to Hal Leonard to gain permission to use Iggy’s lyrics in “Mass Production.”

So what this is all telling me is that all roads are leading to “Love Cats.”

“Love Cats” “Love Cats” “Love Cats” — that is all that’s been on my mind all day and night as I wait to get my paperback copy to approve in the mail. Hopefully this week. And hopefully, if goes as planned, pre-sales will be on Barnes & Noble Store and Amazon THIS WEDNESDAY!

I’m obsessively imagining who I’d love to play my characters in a movie. In spite of my descriptive words and what the book cover illustrates, I dream of a young Laura Leighton as my leading lady, Janey Peyton. Just both her in some goth clothes and she’s good to go.

And the late Razzle from Hanoi Rocks is definitely the look I want for my Beck Stewart character. Let’s undead him for my movie! Beck is the hard-working, humble romantic who is madly in love with Janey.

I’d also want to go back in time, to get a very young Nicolas Cage to play Adam Durian, the eccentric, egotistical famous rock photographer. This character was so grand, he just had to be named after a fruit such as the Durian — a fruit that makes an entrance.

Then there is Morticia (or “Tish Girl” as Beck calls her) the green-eyed black Maine Coon, who is Beck’s pride and joy. Problem is, Janey hates cats. Can this beautiful little bugger change her mind?

And what happens when a little orange fur ball shows up on Janey’s doorstep during her darkest hour? Does she turn a blind eye to a kitten in need? Or does she remain a cat hater?

Is anyone enticed for the soon to be released “Love Cats”?

Tarot Card Reading with Psychic Kathy Biehl

Published May 2, 2015 by Maryanne

psychicAbout once a year I treat myself to a psychic.

In many ways, I’m my own psychic. I read my own tarot cards, interpret my dreams (and even have dreams about other people that come true), and have an insanely keen sense of intuition. Nevertheless, it’s always super cool to have an extra bit of guidance from those who do this professionally.

In the past I’ve had psychics predict incredible things. The most fascinating was that I’d be an author, during a time when I was still perfectly fine as a journalist and had no intention of writing a book — ever. Just a few years later, my first book was published.

And when I was even younger, in my late 20s, I asked a psychic if I’d ever become a writer. At the time I was just writing poetry … for fun and the occasional open mic or featured reader set. She said, “Yes, but not right now. Later in life, like in your late thirties, early forties.” I didn’t want to hear that at all! When you’re in your 20s, you think 30s/40s is so old! Sure enough, I had to bide my time. My first article was published world-wide when I was 32, but the article was in a magazine where I worked selling advertising. I wasn’t “officially” writing full-time until I was 38!

So, I’m a believer!

Today I was blessed to get a reading from Kathy Biehl (http://www.empowermentunlimited.net/Empowerment_Unlimited/Home.html).

She’s a very cool lady. And with no disrespect to other psychics I’ve been to, I have to say Kathy’s reading was the best I ever had in my life. First of all, I love her personality. In spite of all she’s done in her life (refer to her site!) she’s incredibly down to earth. And she “gets it.”

During the reading she focused on me — 100 percent. You know that’s rare in this day and age when everyone is so “me-me-me” oriented. From doctors to hairstylists to therapists, it seems that every “professional” finds a way to take away from the client and make the visit about themselves which is a turn-off. Kathy wasn’t like that at all. I had her undivided attention throughout the visit.

And when I found out she was an Aquarian that made perfect sense, as they are very giving people. (As I said a few days ago, I married an Aquarian and most of my favorite people are Aquarians!)

Kathy was able to rattle off things that are currently going on in my life now. She was also able go back to events that happened when I was a child and guide me on how those experiences are affecting me today.

As for the future, only time will tell if her predictions will come to fruition, though I see a lot of it what she said about to happen. There’s been a self-help book idea that was swimming around in my brain for some time now. When she told me that’s the kind of book I’d be writing, I almost fell over in my chair!

I’m been feeling big changes coming for me for some time now. Kathy confirmed this for me. I’ve always been a lover of life … now more so than ever.

Thank you, Kathy. The universe is good!

Seeking a Psychic to Interview for Magazine

Published September 29, 2013 by Maryanne

Last week a friend of mine wanted to check out A&E Network Psychic Tia’s place, so went over and checked the place out. That day Psychic Tia was booked until 2014 though! She just walked into a session as we got there, otherwise it would have been nice to talk with her.

Psychics are a lot of fun. While I am psychic myself, sometimes I like to treat myself to a reading.

About a year ago, I went to a male psychic who told me that I was going to write a book. At the time, it was the furthest thing from my mind. I was like, “No, I’m happy as a journalist. I have no interest in writing a book.”

Well, one thing led to another, where someone planted a seed in my head, “I’d love to read a book like that!” Next thing you know, I’m finished writing the book and gathering endorsements.

That same psychic also told me things I never imagined happening — all positive stuff, that came true.  And sometimes I tell people positive stuff that comes true too.

All that said, it was a blessing to sign a writing contract a few days ago with upcoming paranormal magazine. I pitched the idea of interviewing a psychic to my editor and the idea was accepted, so now I am seeking someone to interview.

If interested, please read:

SEEKING PSYCHIC FOR INTERVIEW. I’m a great fan of professional psychics and therefore jumped at the opportunity to interview a psychic, male or female, from anywhere in the United States, for a national magazine.

If you are interested in being interviewed, via telephone (sorry no email interviews!), please contact me at: maryannechristiano@gmail.com

When Your Sleeping Dreams Reveal Reality

Published December 1, 2012 by Maryanne

The other day I was inspired when I read on Rarasaur’s Blog, that “Dreams aren’t meant to be ignored.” (https://rarasaur.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/liebster-award-2/)

We’ve heard of Edward Cayce, the sleeping prophet. We’ve heard about “Frankenstein” coming to author Mary Shelley in a dream. And I’m sure each and every one of us have stories to tell about what our dreams have told us.

For me, most of the time sleeping guides me because when I’m at a crossroads, I always feel that an answer will come to me after a good night’s sleep. I wake up refreshed and have all the answers.

Other times, just freaky little things happen, like dreaming about something and then finding out later that there is truth within the dream.

Like a few nights ago for instance. I had a dream that a female singer I adore was going to the movies with my husband and I. The next day I looked her up on Twitter, and it turned out she was watching a made for television movie the same exact time my husband and I were watching it! What are the chances of that happening?

These dream things happen to me a lot. One time I dreamed of my uncle getting a white Corvette. I called him the next day and he said he was looking at a Corvette. What color was it? White. Of course.

Another time I emailed a friend to ask her if she was okay because I dreamed she was crying. She told me she was crying and was going through a hard time about something in her life. After I read her long, heart-breaking email, I was able to respond in a loving way.

And just this past summer I dreamed Barack Obama won the election, three months before it actually happened.

When I first met my husband, he showed me a picture of some family members at a party. His Aunt Mae was very striking, like a movie star. I thought about her a lot and shortly after seeing that picture I had a dream that Aunt Mae had a German Shepherd. My husband said she did!

This list of dreams revealing reality goes on and on and no matter how many times it happens, it never ceases to amaze me.

I’d love to hear stories from others. Please share! (Or feel free to comment on my dreams!)
