Book Signing at Randy Now’s Man Cave

It was my honor to sign copies of my two books, “On the Guest List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” and “Love Cats” at Randy Now’s Man Cave in Bordentown, NJ, yesterday (Sunday, Dec. 19, 2016).

Mary Muehleisen was also there representing her late brother, Maury Muehleisen who played guitar with Jim Croce, and died in a plane crash with Jim at the age of 24. She was selling two of Maury’s solo CDs (which are incredible, by the way! What a gorgeous voice he had, and a beautiful guitarist and songwriter).

Interesting story, a customer came in to buy a Jim Croce record for his girlfriend for Christmas. He did not know that Mary Muehleisen was going to be there. What a beautiful coincidence. The customer brought one of her brother’s CDs.

It was such an honor to meet Mary Muehleisen, as well as selling quite a few books!

Today was absolutely incredible for me.

I was signing copies of my book “On the Guest  List: Adventures of a Music Journalist” alongside of Stu Deutsch, original Plasmatics drummer!

Now, go back to 1980. I had first met Stu Deutsch at a record store in Wayne called Looney Tunes. Stu was signing autographs with The Plasmatics. I was a fan and only 17 and Stu was cool enough to put me on the guest list to see the show that night. Back then they didn’t have “all ages” shows like they do today. Plus the fact that I was bullied in school, having a super cool rock star like Stu put me on the guest list meant the world to me! Who would have ever thought one day we’d be signing autographs together?!

It was so great conversing with fellow Plasmatics fans. I met the coolest people today! I loved seeing all the Plasmatics shirts people wore, and all the old vinyl they brought for Stu to sign. It was also cool that a woman got my book just because she’s collects books that authors sign! And gorgeous NJ weather too!

Thanks so much to Randy Now of Man Cave for having me at this extraordinary event! It was the experience of a lifetime. I’m ecstatic!

If you want to purchase “Guest List” (which has a few Plasmatics stories) please go to Next Century Store: http://www.nextcenturystore.com/non-fiction/other/on-the-guest-list-adventures-of-a-music-journalist.html

Cranbury Bookworm was a two family house — every room was filled with books! It was one of my favorite places and you could spend hours there. They’ve recently downsized to a smaller place. I think it’s pretty cute and it still has a lot of cool books.

My husband and I had a wonderful day in historic Bordentown, New Jersey. Yet another one of New Jersey’s many quaint artistic communities full of thrift stores, bookstores, art galleries and great places to eat.

First stop, a hearty lunch at The Farnsworth House Restaurant: http://www.thefarnsworthhouse.com/

The food was amazing and we had excellent service. The best part was the huge salads with mixed greens, cabbage, carrots and cucumbers.

Then we spent about two hours in The Record Collector: http://www.the-record-collector.com/

We’ve been on their mailing list for a couple years now and finally made the trip down to the shop.

Dennis got me “Sharp Cuts” a vinyl record with a bunch of new wave bands from back in the day including The Know, featuring Gary Valentine (who was on the first Blondie album) on guitar and lead vocals; The Fast; The dBs; and more.

Then we really scored. This amazing place Randy Now’s Man Cave and Consignment Shop: http://www.mancavenj.com/

They had all kinds of pop culture finds, unique sodas and candies, Weird NJ stuff, retro stuff, postcards,  Andy Warhol stuff, Misfits notepads, tons of records and CDs. Dennis got me three CDs and a Johnny Cash button.

The owner, Randy Now, was the promoter at City Gardens and booked thousands of bands there. They are making a movie about him called “Riot in the Dance Floor.” Check it out: http://www.citygardensfilm.com/

We ended up talking to him for over an hour! Next to the store they have a spot where live bands play. We may just have to check it out someday.

A super, fun day and a great way to end a fabulous weekend. Mike Nesmith Friday night, Saturday night visiting our friends Tommy and Darlene and now this beautiful day. LIFE IS GOOD!
