The Rosaire pigs have a wonderful life. They race, and while on the road, they have a wonderful penned area to graze, run, and eat.
The Rosaires, who live in Florida (and house the pigs on a family farm) travel on the road, with their pigs, in an RV. Despite what you may have read from PETA, this is not the case with the Rosaires. These pigs are well taken care of. Smarter than dogs, pigs know abuse, even if it’s accidental, they don’t want anything to do with you stated Wayne Rosaire in a 2014 article from Times Argus online: https://www.timesargus.com/news/vermont-state-fair-rosaires-racing-pigs-a-family-tradition/article_45d3fde9-0f67-5888-8cf8-d2d576f83732.html
In fact, it’s cream-filled cookies that entice the pigs to run, though the funny 200 pound pot bellies move at a snail’s pace, satisfied with stopping to munch on the grass on the race track.
I was fortunate to witness this at the Rosaire Royal Racers show last night at a fair in Milltown, NJ. The pigs were adorable, happy, and obviously well cared for. Prior to the race, they were running around in a huge pen. They had so much energy. It was just like you see on YouTube videos of happy pigs in sanctuaries.
After the race, I spoke to David Rosaire, who told me the pigs get to live their full lives on their farm in Florida. They are not slaughtered. (The average lifespan of a pig is 12 to 18 years. Some of the racing pigs were 7-years-old).
I made my bets, but didn’t pick a winner — however, they are all winners!
I fully support Rosaire’s Royal Racers because in my research on pigs, they need to be trained and entertained, otherwise they get bored and destroy things. As I wrote before, they are highly intelligent animals and their brains have to be exercised. They can learn many tricks, and even how to use a litter box.
Like any other pet, pigs can learn with positive reinforcement via treats and a clicker.

And unlike any other traveling pig racing company, is that they have a private outdoor exercise area for all the animals, so they can go outside as they choose.
Rosaires also travels with misting systems, air conditioning, fans, heaters…and anything else the pigs might need for their comfort.
That way the athletes are comfortable at ALL times!
God bless The Rosaire family for giving these pigs their best lives! There are 5 different pigs in each of the three races; and that makes 15 pigs that get to live and not taken to the slaughterhouse.
We can’t save them all, but The Rosaire family is doing a great job with these 15 beautiful, super-smart, entertaining creatures.
