There is No Such Thing as Gift of Gab

Published August 30, 2022 by Maryanne
Sunset at Keyport, NJ … Nice and quiet

There is no such thing as “gift of gab.”
I often feel overwhelmed and completely taken advantage of, by many people over the years, because I’m a good listener, with a shy nature.
I truly believe I subconsciously began my journey of writing and public speaking in order to have a voice in this world.
What many people fail to realize is that a conversation is a two-way street. This is why I shy away from most people. It’s a sad truth that people are wired to only talk or care about themselves.
Little by little, I began my journey of putting a stop to one-sided conversations. Last week, for the very first time, I walked away while someone was still talking to me. It wasn’t an argument, I was simply bored to death listening to someone ramble about details of getting a new kitchen. Why would that interest me? Or anyone, really, unless you were a home designer.
What people fail to realize is if you’re doing all the talking, you’re boring someone. If you got this far, please, I beg you, if you want to make a difference in the world, stop doing ALL the talking. Give someone else a chance to talk. There is no such thing as “gift of gab.” And if you must talk, THINK before speaking, “Will this interest the person I’m telling?” Please know your audience. Or at least try. Why do people not realize how much talking AT someone can drain their soul. I’m completely tired of listening. I really need to rest. đź’”

So, this is 59!

I love birthdays, especially mine (I won’t lie!) I love being fawned over and getting gifts. Sometimes we can get too hard on ourselves (I am especially hard on myself) and birthdays are a great reminder how loved we are.

I never would have imagined being in my 50s would be so much fun. I’m blessed to still be very healthy and high energy. Life is so precious I make it a point to have an amazing one, with amazing people in my life. My husband spoils me so much and makes me laugh so hard. Our friends are the same. Always a memorable time together.

For the last year of my 50s, I do have some goals. I’d like to get a second printing of my book “The Gypsy Smiled” which is now out of print. (There might be a few left on Amazon by indie sellers). I’d like to book more speaking engagements (I have four from now until the end of the year!) And I’d like to continue doing all the other creative stuff I’ve been doing: journalism, over 50 modeling, working at events. Plus the fun stuff like concerts, going to vegan restaurants, and clothes shopping!

I want everyone know that I am PROUD of my age and not afraid to grow older. I trust that I have a lot more time on this planet, but you never know, so I’ll keep having fun until the fun runs out!

Next year is the big 60!!

Rest in Peace, Little Cottontail

Published August 5, 2022 by Maryanne
Eastern Cottontail

Sunday night my husband found a wounded rabbit near the bushes, near our home. The little guy was alive, but his pelt was stripped off his back and there was also a wound near his neck/shoulder area. Seems another animal tried to attack him and as he was getting away, his pelt stripped off.

Immediately my husband put him in a box and we called dozens of animal refuges, many which were filled to the max; or wouldn’t take rabbits only deer, or whatever animal they specialized in.

The next morning we found Woodlands Wildlife Refuge (www.woodlandswildlife.org). It was an hour drive and the bunny was placed on the floor of the backseat of the car, still alive, but in shock. Every so often his eyes would blink or his little front paws would twitch. Boy, was he a cutie pie. We had high hopes for his recovery.

They took him right in. He was so badly injured, they got right on it.

Sadly, he didn’t make it. In less than 24 hours he was gone.

It’s terrible to see a defenseless animal hurt, and then die.

What does make me feel somewhat okay about all of this is: 1. It was an act of nature and he didn’t get killed by a car.; 2. We tried our best. And at least we had a place to bring him and he didn’t have to die in the bushes and be eaten by bugs.

In honor of this beautiful Eastern Cottontail, my husband bought me a necklace from the refuge, along with a bunny statue (and another statue that looked like one of our cats).

I’ll never forget this sad week, but I did learn a lot about rabbits, and that such a beautiful place like Woodlands Wildlife Refuge exists.

Rest in peace, sweet little bunny. We tried……………

NOTE: The above photo was swiped from Google. Friends have asked to see a photo of the rabbit, but he was too badly torn up. No one would like to see an animal like that, though his beautiful eyes were just fine — big and round. And his front paws were adorable, along with his little cottontail.
